What Is That Effin Elf Exactly?

The Story Behind a Small Witch Clothing Shop ✨🌟

That Effin Elf is a small independent witch clothing shop built around humour, magic, and the slightly chaotic energy that comes with living a witchy life. 🧙♀️✨

But the truth is, it didn’t begin as some grand creative vision.

It began with a very practical question.

How do I build a good life for my family using the skills and time I actually have?

Like many small businesses, That Effin Elf didn’t start with a boardroom or a polished business plan. It started with a kitchen table, a laptop, and a determination to make something work.

I live with a chronic illness, which means my energy and mobility can be unpredictable. Some mornings are good, some mornings are not. Alongside that, I homeschool my son, which is the most important work I do. 🧡

So instead of trying to force myself into a traditional work model that doesn’t fit my life, I decided to build one that does.

Fortunately, I’ve collected a fairly eclectic set of skills over the years.

Professionally, I’m a graphic designer and web designer, which means creating things for the internet is very much my natural habitat. 💻

But that’s only part of the story.

Over a lifetime I’ve also become:

✨ a lifelong mystic

✨ a healer

✨ an archaeologist

✨ a maker

✨ and someone who always has one foot in fairyland.

When you mix that collection of interests with a slightly chaotic sense of humour, you end up with something very much like That Effin Elf.

The designs come from the strange little moments of magical life — familiars with strong opinions 🐈⬛, spells that behave slightly differently than intended, and the quiet satisfaction of a cosy hoodie and a strong cup of tea.

This shop is built during the small pockets of time life gives me. Some days there’s a lot of creative energy, some days there’s less. That’s also why you might occasionally see a note saying replies can take a couple of business days.

It’s a small workshop run by a real human being with a real family, and those two things will always come first.

But in between all of that, something lovely has begun to grow.

A tiny magical clothing shop.

A place for humour, for witches, for familiars, and for anyone who enjoys a little witch aesthetic clothing in their everyday life. 🖤

If you’d like to explore the designs that grew out of this little workshop, you can browse the full collection in the shop.

Where This Is All Heading

Right now That Effin Elf focuses mostly on clothing, because design and digital work are the tools I can use most easily from home.

But the longer-term vision for this little workshop reaches a bit further. 🔮

Over time I’d love to expand the shop with a small collection of carefully chosen items that fit naturally into the same magical world — things that support quiet rituals, creative practice, and everyday witchy life.

That might include things like tea ceremony pieces 🍵, incense for different occasions, and other thoughtful supplies sourced from exceptional makers.  There is a strict "nothing junky" rule here.   The things offered here are intended to be with you for a very long time to come. 🥹🙏💕

Alongside that, there will also be things that come directly from my own workshop when time allows.

Handmade pieces. 🎁

Custom rune stones. 🔮

Ancient pendulums. 💎

Vintage black mirrors. 🪞

Objects with a character and story behind them.

Nothing mass-produced or rushed.

Just a slowly growing collection of magical tools, curiosities, and creations that feel at home alongside the clothing.

For now though, the shop is starting where it can start — with designs, humour, and a familiar or two keeping watch over the spellbooks.

So if you’ve wandered in here, welcome. 🌙

Pull up a chair, have a look around, and try not to let the familiar eat the spellbook.
